What We Do

Assessment.

Our members measure professional fulfillment and burnout using a holistic, validated survey of well-being, including both outcomes and determinants. Our library of survey measures are efficient, sensitive to change, and are vetted by our Scientific Board. The core survey includes the Professional Fulfillment Index (PFI), authored by Mickey Trockel, MD, PhD (Stanford Medicine). The PFI is recognized by the National Academy of Medicine as one of few validated and reliable survey instruments to measure well-being and burnout.

Benchmarking.

Consortium-wide data collection enables members to monitor changes over time across specialties, departments, and organizations. Current benchmarks include attending physicians, residents/fellows, advanced practice providers, nurses, and non-clinician faculty scientists. Our benchmark database is updated dynamically after each member survey and includes a one-year or two-year options for comparisons.

Innovation.

The Consortium hosts monthly forums for members to share pilot interventions, preparing for multi-site implementation and testing. Members may propose and lead collaborative discovery/program evaluation projects using aggregate, de-identified Consortium data.

Together, we will advance the field of healthcare professional well-being and improve collective outcomes through innovative program design, delivery, and evaluation.

Collaboration.

Member representatives connect and collaborate with fellow well-being leaders, fostering innovation and mutual support. Monthly videoconferences and a members-only virtual platform allow participants to network, share interventions, and produce research and scholarship in a collegial environment. Healthcare PWAC hosts monthly webinars and two in-person conferences per year.
